Matt makes it USC NSW victory number two!

Matt Dumesny took the victory for the second time this season at Valvoline Raceway with a dominant win in the preliminary final of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship NSW.

Second to the line was current USC leader Robbie Farr and Grant Tunks scored his second podium of this season, coming home in third.

The race began with Matt Dumesny and James Thompson on the front row and Dumesny taking the lead.

He managed to gap the field and despite heavy lapped traffic, managed to keep James Thompson at bay.

A caution on lap nine, which was the race’s only yellow light stoppage, occurred when Marcus Dumesny spun on turn two.

The ensuing double file restart was advantageous for some drivers and a headache for others, including Thompson who dropped a spot and Troy Little who also lost a spot towards the middle of the field. Robbie Farr moved into second and Tunks, who started from position five, was starting to make his presence felt.

With ten laps remaining and Matt Dumesny driving into the distance, Thompson dropped from third back to sixth, which allowed Tunks to gain a position and onto the podium and Ben Atkinson and Daniel Sayre, who were having a great battle, moved into the top five.

There was no catching Dumesny however as he went on to add a third career Valvoline Raceway feature race win to his tally.

Following the top three were Atkinson in fourth, Sayre in fifth, Thompson in sixth, Little in seventh, Max Johnston made a return to racing to finish eighth, Max Dumesny was ninth and Dann Reidy rounded out the top ten.

Eleventh home was Warren Ferguson ahead of Jessie Attard, Geering, Michael Saller, Chris Street and Jordyn Brazier was the final on-track finisher. Non-finishers were Marcus Dumesny, James Duckworth, Kiwi Dean Brindle, Queenslander Lachlan McHugh, Sam Walsh, Thomas Jeffrey and Brendan Scorgie. Braydan Willmington was a non-starter in the event after retiring with a jammed throttle.

Earlier in the night, In Qualifying, it was Matt Dumesny who was quickest in flight one with a 12.214 second lap and Robbie Farr was quickest in flight two with a 12.479 second lap.

Four heat races were run, with victories going to Matt Dumesny, McHugh, Farr and Tunks.

There was a scary moment in heat three when Geering flipped in turn four.

He emerged from the car unscathed. He and the team scrambled to have the car ready for the B-Main, which he finished a great second behind Brendan Scorgie. Braydan Willmington and Thomas Jeffrey were the other transferees.
